Heath calls transparency “superfluous”

Senator Rollie Heath (D-Boulder) called HB 1288 the Colorado Taxpayer Transparency Act “superfluous” in Tuesday’s Senate Finance Committee hearing.  According to WordNet “superfluous” means pointless, senseless, “serving no useful purpose.”  Does Senator Heath believe that taxpayers who want to know how their money is spent “serve no useful purpose?”

It was obvious that neither Senator Heath nor Senator Evie Hudak want taxpayers to know how government spends their money.  This is not the first time that COST has listened to Evie Hudak try to torpedo transparency.  Makes us wonder what she is trying to hide.

One fact that is not “superfluous” is that both Hudak and Heath received campaign contributions from the teachers’ union, which is officially opposed to showing taxpayers how their money is spent.  According to Follow the Money, Hudak got nearly $20,000 from the CEA and various other teachers’ unions.  Heath received nearly $5,000 during the last election cycle.  Wonder if taxpayers consider those campaign contributions as “serving no useful purpose?”  Maybe not useful for taxpayers but certainly useful for the education lobby.
