Transparency not a partisan issue
Transparency legislation passed in Texas thanks to bipartisan support. Two democrats and three republicans sponsored the legislation because in Texas both parties are committed to providing taxpayers with as much information as possible about how their hard earned dollars are spent. Lead author Texas State Representative Mark Strama (D) said “we all agree the democratic process works best when the public can see what we are doing with their tax dollars.”
At the local level, we’ve seen bipartisan support in Colorado. Fort Collins unanimously passed transparency and accountability in city government. By the middle of 2009, Fort Collins residents can see how their tax dollars are spent with an searchable, online database of all city expenditures.
Good government is not a partisan issue.
No taxation without information!
